Britney Cooper has officially been confirmed as the replacement for the injured Chedean Nation in West Indies’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 squad.
Middle-order batter Britney Cooper has replaced Chedean Nation in the West Indies squad at the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa, after the latter was ruled out of the competition with knee injury.
Nation registered scores of 9*(9) and 21*(18) during the side’s back-to-back defeats in their first two matches against England and India respectively.
Cooper was approved as the replacement by The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 on Friday, February 17, with the panel comprising Chris Tetley (Chair, ICC Head of Events), Russell Adams (Tournament Director), Snehal Pradhan (ICC Women’s Cricket Manager), Mike Gajjar (Cricket South Africa representative), Ian Bishop and Lisa Sthalekar (both independent).
“The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad,” stated an official release.
Cooper, 33, has represented the West Indies 49 ODIs and 96 T20Is till date since making her international debut back in October 2009. She was an integral part of West Indies’ title win in 2016 in India, scoring a game-defining 61 in the semi-final against New Zealand, before hitting the winning runs in the final against Australia at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
West Indies, currently placed fourth in the Group B points table, will take on Ireland at Newlands, Cape Town on Friday, February 17.
