Gill has been elected captain of the Gujarat Titans.

Gujarat Titans have named Shubman Gill as their captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The 2022 winners named their captain after the official transfer of original skipper Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians.

“Shubman Gill has shown growth in stature and standing over the last two years at the highest level of the game,” said Vikram Solanki, director of cricket for Gujarat Titans. We’ve seen him evolve not only as a hitter, but also as a cricket leader. On the field, his contributions have helped the Gujarat Titans emerge as a formidable force, guiding the team to a successful campaign in 2022 and a good run in 2023. His maturity and skill are clear in his on-field performance, and we are thrilled to start on a new adventure with a young leader like Shubman at the helm.”

“I am delighted and proud to assume the captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for their trust in me to lead such a fine team,” Shubman Gill said upon the announcement. We’ve enjoyed two outstanding seasons, and I’m excited to lead the team with our dynamic brand of cricket.”

Gill has scored an amazing 1373 runs in 33 games for the Titans in their two seasons in the IPL. He helped GT win the title in their first season in 2022, but the franchise finished second in 2023 despite his amazing contribution of 890 runs in 16 games.

MI welcomes back Hardik Pandya.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians have accepted Pandya. “We are overjoyed to have Hardik back! It’s a joyous reunion with our Mumbai Indians family! Hardik has come a long way from being a young scouted prospect of the Mumbai Indians to now being a Team India star, and we’re delighted for what the future holds for him and the Mumbai Indians!”

“Seeing Hardik back at Mumbai Indians makes me very happy,” Akash Ambani stated. It’s a joyful homecoming. He brings a lot of balance to whatever squad he plays for. Hardik’s first stint with the MI family was a big success, and we hope he has even more success in his second.”

“Hardik’s return marks his return to the #OneFamily, where he will reunite with Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and the rest of the team.” “He rose to prominence for MI before making his debut for India in 2016,” according to a MI announcement.

Pandya joined MI in 2015 and stayed with them until the 2021 season, when he was released and quickly signed by newcomers Gujarat Titans. He guided the Titans to the title twice in his two seasons with them, once in 2022 (their debut season) and once in 2023 (runner-up). He has appeared in 92 games for MI in seven seasons, amassing over 1400 runs and capturing 42 wickets.
