Virender Sehwag wasn’t happy when Prithvi Shaw failed for the second time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 for the Delhi Capitals (DC). Shaw, who bats with his right hand, hit a four to start his turn against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Tuesday, April 5. Mohammed Shami then took his wicket.
Shaw tried to get the ball away from Shami after he hit a short ball. But the hitter didn’t hit the ball at the right time, and Alzarri Joseph caught it mid-on. Sehwag said that Shaw should learn from Shubman Gill’s success as he moves forward.
“He’s been kicked off the team so many times for making those shots, but he should also learn from his mistakes, right?” Look at Shubman Gill, who played U-19 cricket with him and now plays Tests, ODIs, and T20Is for India, but Shaw is still struggling in the IPL,” Sehwag said.
Sehwag, who just played in the Legends League Cricket in Ghaziabad, thought it was time for Shaw to be as consistent in the IPL as Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
“He needs to take advantage of the IPL and get runs.” During an IPL season, Ruturaj Gaikwad got somewhere around 600 runs. Big runs were also made by Shubman Gill. “So even Shaw has to keep his IPL scores steady,” he said.
When Shaw got out on Tuesday, famous batter Sunil Gavaskar also talked about the flaw in Shaw’s technique. Gavaskar said, “That backfoot has done him in again; it doesn’t move at all.”
Shaw’s first game in the IPL 2023 was against KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants. He scored 12 runs before Mark Wood hit his stumps with a perfect ball.
Shaw has played in 65 IPL games, scoring 1607 runs with an average of 24.72 and a strike rate of 147.3. He has 12 half-centuries and a high score of 99 against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for his efforts.
