Williamson and the pinners from Bangladesh secure another even session.

Bangladesh’s innings lasted all of one ball after closing Day 1 on 310-9, as Southee trapped Shoriful Islam in front and took a review, only to discover that the ball would have cannoned into leg-stump.

New Zealand’s innings began quickly, with Tom Latham hitting boundaries off the second and third balls of the session. Bangladesh wasted a review against Devon Conway off the last delivery of Mehidy’s first over, as Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled off-spin from the other end with the new ball.

Bangladesh’s bowlers, on the other side, kept things tight, and their sparing bowling yielded results in the form of Tom Latham, who top-edged a sweep in Taijul Islam’s first over, delivering a simple catch to Nayeem Hasan. Conway’s resistance was also broken when he edged one from Miraz into his pads and threw it up to ridiculous point.

This left Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls at the crease, where they put up 34 for the third wicket, putting New Zealand in a good position on Day 2’s lunch break.

Brief Scores: Bangladesh 310 (Mahmudul Hasan Joy 86, Glenn Phillips 4-53) leads New Zealand 78-2 (Kane Williamson 26*, Mehidy Hasan Miraz 1-22) by 232 runs.
