At the end of the first season of the Women’s Premier League, the Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals (DC) by 7 wickets to win the WPL 2023 trophy. The squad captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, MI, became the first team to win the WPL trophy on Sunday.
Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals chose to bat first and got 131 runs for 9 wickets. A sensational partnership between Shikha Pandey (27 not out) and Radha Yadav (27 not out) gave MI a fight for their money in the first inning.
Even though it wasn’t easy, Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians got to 134 runs with only three wickets lost in 19.3 overs. MI won the WPL 2023 and took home the gold trophy. The players of the squad also won a lot of money and fame.
The WPL 2023 trophy is around 1.5 feet tall and has a beautiful gold frame. The price and make of the gold Women’s Premier League trophy have yet to be announced, although it is likely to be less than Rs 20 crore, which is how much the IPL trophy costs.
Also, Mumbai Indians, the team that won the WPL 2023, took home the trophy and a cash award of Rs 6 crore, while Delhi Capitals, the first runner-up, earned a cash prize of Rs 3 crore. The second-place team in the WPL 2023, the UP Warriorz, got Rs 1 crore in cash.
In addition to the cash prizes for the top three winning teams, the WPL 2023 committee also gave out awards in several categories. The cash prizes ranged from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, depending on the class.
