Kyle Phillip, an American speed bowler, has been suspended from bowling with immediate effect. Phillip, age 26, was reported with a suspicious action following the United States’ loss to the West Indies on the opening day of the World Cup Qualifiers in Harare, where he took three wickets for fifty-six runs. His suspension comes at a time when the United States camp is ravaged by influenza, with the majority of the squad ill or recuperating during the outbreak.
Phillip went on to play in the second ODI for the United States against Nepal before the event tribunal ruled that his bowling action violated Article 6.7 of the regulations. Phillip’s ban from bowling in international cricket will remain in effect until his bowling action is reviewed by the ICC’s expert panel or an ICC-approved testing facility.
Phillip’s bowling suspension casts additional doubt on his participation in the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC), scheduled to begin on July 13. Phillip was selected with the eighth pick (USD 10,000) in the domestic player draft by MI New York.
