Pakistan’s monopoly at the summit of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batter Rankings is in jeopardy following India’s undefeated start to the Asia Cup. A large group of India players gained ground on the most recent update.
Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma have led India’s formidable top order to victory at the Asia Cup.
Gill has already scored two half-centuries and 154 runs in the tournament. As a result, he has risen to a career-high second place in the latest rankings, with only Pakistan captain Babar Azam ahead of him.
And Gill has significantly narrowed the disparity between himself and the Pakistan captain, with the gap at the summit now just 103 rating points between Babar’s 863 rating points and the India opener’s 751 rating points.
India now has three batters inside the top 10 for the first time in over four years, with Gill, Kohli, and Rohit all gaining positions.
Shikhar Dhawan joined Rohit and Virat in the top 10 of the rankings for ODI batsmen for the first time since the beginning of 2019, when Rohit, Dhawan, and Virat were all ranked within the top 10.
Pakistan still has three batsmen ranked within the top ten, but Imam-ul-Haq has dropped one spot to fifth and Fakhar Zaman has dropped three slots to tenth.
As a result of his nine wickets at the Asia Cup, veteran India spinner Kuldeep Yadav has moved up five spots to seventh on the amended list of ODI bowlers, while colleague Hardik Pandya has moved up four spots to sixth on the list of ODI all-rounders.
Pace tandem Haris Rauf (up eight places to 21st) and Naseem Shah (up 11 spots to equal 51st) improved significantly despite taking up a minor injury in Pakistan’s most recent match against India.
Following a three-wicket haul in the opening match of Australia’s ongoing series with South Africa, Josh Hazlewood extends his advantage atop the ODI bowler rankings, while a number of his compatriots and Proteas stars also gain territory.
Keshav Maharaj (up 10 places to 25th) and Tabraiz Shamsi (up 15 places to equal 29th) improve on the list for ODI bowlers, while Proteas captain Temba Bavuma leaps a whopping 21 places to 11th and a new career-high rating on the list for ODI batsmen following his impressive century in the series opener in Bloemfontein.
After his quickfire fifty in the third match of the South Africa series, veteran batsman David Warner moves up one position to fourth in the updated batter rankings, while fellow left-hander Travis Head surges six slots to twenty-first on the same list.
Despite the fact that T20I cricket is taking a backseat in the lead-up to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India, there has been some movement in the rankings following England’s home series against New Zealand.
Glenn Phillips rises three places to 11th on the amended rankings for T20I batters, while compatriots Tim Seifert (up 32 to 21st) and Mark Chapman (up six places to tie for 23rd) also make progress on the same list.
Mitchell Santner (up four places to 15th) and Ish Sodhi (up four places to 16th) are the biggest movers on the updated T20I bowler rankings, while England veteran Jonny Bairstow improves a massive 31 places to 30th on the list for batsmen following his quick-fire 73 in the series’ final match.
