A Sydney court has cleared Sri Lanka cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka of sexual assault allegations, according to AAP.
The 32-year-old was arrested on the margins of the T20 World Cup in November last year after a lady accused him of sexual intercourse without consent. He was accused with four counts of rape, but only one case of “stealthing” was heard in court. Gunathilaka pleaded not guilty and faced a four-day trial in Downing Centre District Court before Judge Sarah Huggett.
Gunathilaka is now free to return to Sri Lanka after being suspended from all forms of cricket by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
