Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah believes he was given too much break before being named to the national ODI squad for the ongoing ICC World Cup. The experienced hitter returned to the ODI fold for the home series against New Zealand after a six-month absence following his exclusion during the home series against England earlier this year.
The national selection panel described his withdrawal as “rest,” and many believed Mahmudullah’s career was gone, given that the team administration was anxious to promote youth in preparation for the World Cup.
The national team management was compelled to bring back Mahmudullah due to the continuous failures of the youngsters, however he was batting below No.6 until the South African game. Mahmudullah made a statement by scoring his fourth ODI century at the Wankhede Stadium.
“I can’t talk about that time (when I wasn’t on the national team).” “I want to talk about a lot of things, but now is not the time,” Mahmudullah stated after the game. “I’m not sure. Most likely, Allah has given me the strength to persevere. I strived to maintain my fitness. I persisted in my efforts. That’s all I can provide. All I can say is that I wanted to help the squad. I wish I could have contributed more so that we could have won the game.
“I think I took a little too much rest.” It was out of my hands. The team’s management made the decision. “It’s good enough for me and the team if I can do my job honestly,” he remarked.
Mahmudullah stated that batting down the order did not bother him because the team management chose to send him at number eight rather than his preferred position. “I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in my career.” “It’s fine to write down the order,” he said.
“Coach told me yesterday that I was batting at No. 6.” I got out there and did my thing. I did not aim for my hundred. I was only batting. You simply bat. I told Mustafiz to hang on tight. Let us stay for 50 overs because there is a run-rate issue. “I just wanted to go deep and try to score some runs for the team,” he said, adding that he wanted to dedicate this century to his family and thank everyone who supported and opposed him at this key point in his career.
“I’d like to dedicate it to my family and everyone who has helped and prayed for me over the last three months.” I’d like to thank everyone who supported me, as well as those who did not.”
