On Sunday (December 11), the shortlist for the 2024 IPL Player Auction was announced, with 333 players ready to go under the hammer. There are 214 Indian players and 119 from other countries, including two from associate countries. With the highest reserve price of INR 2 Crore, the bracket includes 23 players, three of which are Indians: Harshal Patel, Shardul Thakur, and Umesh Yadav.
Harry Brook, Travis Head, Rilee Rossouw, Steve Smith, Gerald Coetzee, Pat Cummins, Chris Woakes, Josh Inglis, Lockie Ferguson, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Adil Rashid, Rassie van der Dussen, James Vince, Sean Abbott, Jamie Overton, David Willey, Ben Duckett, Mustafizur Rahman are the remaining 20 players with the highest base price.
Australia’s World Cup-winning captain has returned to the IPL after withdrawing last season, while Starc will return to the auction after a lengthy absence. Hazlewood, who is expecting his first kid during the IPL, may miss the first part of the season, but he has been put in the top pricing group.
Seven Australians, including 2023 World Cup hero Travis Head, have a starting bid of INR 2 crore. Seven England cricketers are also present, including Harry Brook. Pacer Coetzee, who performed admirably at the World Cup, is one of three South Africans with the highest starting price. Ferguson of New Zealand, Mustafizur of Bangladesh, and Mujeeb of Afghanistan are the others in the top bracket.
There are 13 overseas players listed in the second highest base price category of INR 1.5 Crore. The INR 1.5 Crore group includes Wanindu Hasaranga, Phillip Salt, Colin Munro, Sherfane Rutherford, Tom Curran, Jason Holder, Mohammad Nabi, James Neesham, Daniel Sams, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, Jhye Richardson, and Tim Southee. The INR 1 Crore bracket has 14 players, including Namibia’s David Wiese, and the INR 75 Lakh bracket has 11 players. Paul van Mekeren of the Netherlands is the other associate player, and his base fee is INR 20 Lakh.
Rachin Ravindra, New Zealand’s World Cup standout, and Azmatullah Omarzai, Afghanistan’s standout performer in the multi-team event, are both placed in the INR 50 Lakh category.
The IPL auction will take place on December 19 at 2:30 PM IST at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. A total of 77 seats are available for the teams to fill, with a maximum of 30 international slots. The total amount of money available for spending is INR 262.95 crore. The Kolkata Knight Riders have the most slots to fill (12), while the Gujarat Titans, who traded Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal, have the largest purse (INR 38.15 crore) heading into the auction.
