Kyle Jamieson will miss the 2nd and 3rd ODI against Bangladesh

New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson is set to undergo a surgery for his injured back that will sideline him for up to four months. Jamieson, who was named in the New Zealand squad for the ongoing home series against England, was ruled out with a suspected stress fracture to the back.

Kyle Jamieson will miss the second and third One-Day Internationals against Bangladesh “and will instead have a period of rest” before the three-match T20I series begins. Meanwhile, Finn Allen has been dropped from the squad for the second ODI in order to play for the Auckland Aces in their Super Smash opener on Tuesday.

The decision on Jamieson was made after he “experienced stiffness in his hamstring following his arrival home from Bangladesh last week,” according to NZC.

New Zealand was in Bangladesh for a two-Test series that finished in a 1-1 tie. Ben Sears, who was brought in as a replacement for Jamieson earlier to the ODI series, will remain with the squad.

“There’s a lot of cricket ahead of us and we want to make sure Kyle’s in the best place possible without taking any unnecessary risks,” Gary Stead, the team’s head coach, said. “As we flagged when naming the ODI squad we see the series as a chance to provide opportunities to some new players, and Ben fits that category.”

Allen will miss only one ODI before rejoining the squad for the third game.

Jamieson and Allen did not participate in the opening ODI of the series against Bangladesh, which New Zealand won by 44 runs (DLS method) on Sunday in Dunedin. Will Young and Tom Latham batted brilliantly in the match, scoring 105 and 92 runs respectively as New Zealand amassed 239 for 7 in 30 overs. Bangladesh were subsequently bowled out for 200, with Adam Milne, Ish Sodhi, and Josh Clarkson all taking two wickets each.

The second ODI will be played on Wednesday in Nelson.

Tom Latham (captain), Will Young, Tom Blundell (wk), Henry Nicholls, Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson, Rachin Ravindra, Adithya Ashok, Jacob Duffy, Adam Milne, William O’Rourke, Ben Sears, Finn Allen (only third ODI) are the New Zealand squad for the remainder of the ODI series.
