Blazing Century by Head Propels Australia to a Valuable Lead

AUS vs WI
Head hit three sixes in his 119.

Travis Head’s spectacular seventh Test century, the second on his home turf in Adelaide, propelled Australia to a hard-fought 72-run lead by Tea on Day 2 of the gripping first Test against the West Indies.

Navigating a challenging batting surface, Head showcased his full arsenal of shots post-Lunch, skillfully guiding Australia towards surpassing the West Indies’ initial total of 188. With authoritative drives, precise cuts, and bold pulls, Head not only reached his half-century but also ramped a short ball from Alzarri Joseph over the slips, elevating the momentum.

Despite a brilliant diving catch from Joshua da Silva dismissing Alex Carey, Head unleashed an offensive onslaught, taking the fight to the opposition after Australia claimed the lead. Approaching his century, he fearlessly tackled West Indies’ best bowler, Shamar Joseph, smashing back-to-back fours to surge into the 90s.

A slight setback occurred when Windies debutant Shamar Joseph dismissed Mitchell Starc with a well-executed bouncer, breaking their 54-run partnership. Unfazed, Head continued his onslaught, achieving his century with a beautiful cover drive. Shamar responded with two short balls, both expertly pulled over the ropes for maximum damage as Australia neared the 250-mark.

The remarkable innings concluded at 119, as Alzarri executed a clever offcutter, causing Head to sky a catch at the ropes just before Tea.
