Shreyas Iyer might miss the Rajkot Test due to an injury.

ENG vs AUS
Shreyas Iyer has had troubles with his back in recent times.

India’s injury difficulties in the present five-Test series against England look to be worsening, with Shreyas Iyer becoming a doubt for next week’s Rajkot Test after complaining of back pain, according to MCA sources.

CricAdvisor reports that the National Cricket Academy has contacted the BCCI over his fitness status. In addition, the team for the third and subsequent Tests has yet to be announced, with a source stating that the selectors have still to meet.

The selectors were scheduled to meet on Thursday (February 8), but are now anticipated to do so today, with a formal announcement of the team to follow.

It is yet another setback for Iyer, who has struggled with back problems over the previous year. He missed the start of last year’s Border-Gavaskar series, but the persistent issue flared again during the fourth Test in Ahmedabad, prompting him to consider surgery to restore fitness. The protracted recuperation procedure meant he missed the majority of the year’s cricket, returning only in August ahead of the Asia Cup.

India lost four first-choice players in Vizag owing to fitness concerns, including Mohammed Shami, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja, but managed to even the series. The third Test starts on February 15 in Rajkot.
