Netherlands were dominant with the ball.

Bouncing back from a bruising encounter with hosts Nepal over the weekend, the powerhouse Netherlands cricket team orchestrated an exhilarating turnaround by overwhelming Namibia in their second match of CWC League 2 in Kathmandu.

The heroics unfolded with offspinner Aryan Dutt delivering a record-breaking performance, securing an impressive 6-34, dismantling Namibia for a mere 123 runs. The script continued to captivate as Michael Levitt, showcasing resilience, hammered his maiden ODI fifty, steering the Dutch to a resounding 7-wicket triumph in just 28 overs.

The initial exchanges witnessed the dynamic pace duo of Vivian Kingma and Kyle Klein exploiting early swing, but the Namibian pair of Nico Davin and JP Kotze skillfully thwarted their efforts for the first seven overs. While Kingma posed a formidable threat, it was Klein who engineered the breakthrough, coaxing Davin to chip to midwicket for a modest 13. Sensing the need for a change, captain Edwards turned to off-spinner Aryan Dutt, who responded with flair and finesse.

Aryan Dutt, overcoming a nightmarish start in the series, where he conceded 44 runs in three overs against Nepal, found his rhythm. His artistry unfolded as three left-handed batsmen succumbed in quick succession. The dismissal of Namibia’s skipper, Gerhard Erasmus, added a touch of flair, with Dutt completing his maiden five-wicket haul.

Despite a brief resistance from JJ Smit and Zane Green, Dutt returned to the spotlight, dismissing Green in the 21st over, achieving a historic milestone as the first Dutchman to claim 6 wickets in an ODI. The cricketing records echoed with names like Mudassar Bukhari and Vivian Kingma, but Dutt’s seventh wicket eluded him, thwarted by Max O’Dowd’s part-time leg spin and a spectacular catch by Noah Croes.

Chasing a modest 124 for victory, the Dutch encountered a momentary wobble as Michael Levitt, off the mark with a stylish French cut for four, faced resistance from Namibia’s outstanding ground fielding. However, O’Dowd’s commanding performance, including two consecutive sixes off Berhard Scholtz, swiftly dispelled any lingering doubts.

The dynamic duo of O’Dowd and Levitt accelerated with an impressive 78-run partnership for the first wicket. While Erasmus claimed O’Dowd’s wicket for 28, Levitt seized the opportunity to showcase his prowess. Erasmus continued to make inroads with two more scalps, but Bas de Leede’s aggressive play in the 26th over, scoring 22 off Tangeni Lungameni, leveled the scores. The Dutch sealed the deal with seven wickets and a surplus of 136 balls, emphasizing their dominance in this thrilling encounter.

Brief Scores:Namibia: 123 in 35.1 overs (JJ Smit 20; Aryan Dutt 6-34) lost to the Netherlands: 124 (ML Levitt 57; MG Erasmus 3-23)
