Lalchand Rajput, a former international player for India, has been given the position of head coach of the senior men’s squad for the Gulf States. Mudassar Nazar, who had been serving in the job on an interim basis after succeeding Robin Singh, another India international, has been replaced by the 62-year-old individual.

At the international level, Rajput has previous experience coaching, and he is most known for his role in guiding India to victory in the first Twenty20 World Cup, which took place in 2007. Following that, Rajput went on to have stints with Afghanistan, which contributed to the country’s achievement of test status in 2017. The most recent position he had was that of head coach for Zimbabwe, which he held from 2018 till 2022.

In a statement that was published by the Emirates Cricket Board, Rajput was cited as saying, “UAE has emerged as one of the stronger Associate Members in recent years, and the players have put in some good performances in both one-day internationals and Twenty20 internationals.”

“The current batch is exceptionally talented and I look forward to working with them and further harnessing their cricket skills.”

Mubashir Usmani, the general secretary of the ECB, made the following statement in response to the appointment: “We are confident that under his coaching, UAE men’s cricket will flourish further.” In addition, I would want to use this occasion to express my gratitude to Mudassar Nazar for the outstanding work he has done as the interim head coach. Now that he has returned to his position as Head of the National Academy Programme, Mudassar will continue to be responsible for identifying and cultivating our future stars.

The first assignment that Rajput will be responsible for is a tri-series in the ICC League 2 that will begin on February 28 and involve Canada and Scotland. This competition will act as a stepping stone for players to qualify for the One-Day International World Cup in 2027.
