Matthew Wade, an Australian wicketkeeper-batsman, is scheduled to forego the opening match of the IPL 2024 for the Gujarat Titans in order to focus on the Sheffield Shield final. Tasmania are in pole position to host the final this year from March 21-25, whereas the Titans’ first game of the season against Mumbai Indians is scheduled for March 24.
Wade will have minimal opportunities to participate in GT’s second match if the Shield final progresses to the final day. On March 26, GT is in line to face defending champions Chennai Super Kings in their final match.
“He’s spoken with his IPL franchise and they’re happy to allow him to stay here, which probably equates to him potentially missing their first game,” Tasmania head coach Jeff Vaughan confirmed. “We feel very fortunate to
have someone of Matt’s ilk coming back into our group, and his experience and his performances at the back end of our season.”
Wade was inducted into the Titans’ organization prior to their debut season in 2022. Despite not being the team’s gloveman in 2022, he was a member of the playing XI that claimed the championship. He was not given the opportunity to play for them during their second-place finish last season.
