Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangladesh pacer, is expected to miss the next game for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024 since he has flown to Bangladesh to process his US visa ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be hosted in the Caribbean and the United States beginning June.
CSK’s next match is away to Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday (April 5), and Mustafizur is anticipated to return on Sunday or Monday, depending on when he receives his passport back. A return on Monday (April 8) would be a close call, and he could even miss the home match against the Kolkata Knight Riders on the same day.
“Mustafizur arrived last night from the IPL for US visa purposes for the upcoming T20 World Cup. He will be giving his fingerprint at the US embassy tomorrow (April 4) and later will travel back to India to join Chennai,” BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus confirmed to CricAdvisor on Wednesday.
Mustafizur has been instrumental for CSK so far in the tournament, taking seven wickets in three matches to lead the bowling chart. He scored 4-29 in the first IPL 2024 match between CSK and Royal Challengers Bangalore. He then went on to score 2-30 against the Gujarat Titans, helping them win. He was, however, pricey in the game against his previous IPL side, the Delhi Capitals, conceding 47 runs in four overs for one wicket.
Mustafizur will only be available to play in the IPL until the end of April, with the left-arm seamer set to join the national team ahead of their five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe beginning on May 3. “His NOC for the tournament runs till April 30 and we are expecting him to back after that from IPL,” he said.
