Ahmedabad Washout Ends GT’s IPL 2024 Playoff Dreams!

IPL
GT joined MI and PBKS in bowing out of the race to the playoffs

Rain put the final nail in the coffin for last year’s runner-up Gujarat Titans after their encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was washed out. On the other hand, it gave joy to the Knight Riders who are now assured of a top-two finish, which carries the advantage of having an extra chance to reach the summit clash via playoffs.

KKR’s Journey to the Top Two

KKR last finished in the top two 10 years back in 2014 when they also won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title. This year’s performance under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan has been remarkable, with the team showing consistency and determination throughout the tournament.

Playoff Scenarios

This result also ensured that the clash between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants will now be a knockout game, with the loser being definitely eliminated. Both Gujarat and KKR can still influence the table with each having a game remaining. Gujarat will travel to Hyderabad to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), one of the contenders for a playoff spot, on May 16, while KKR go to Guwahati to take on Rajasthan Royals on May 19 which will be the final league game of the season.

KKR’s Playoff Preparation

A small downside of the washout for KKR would be that they would not have had game time in the same venue where they have now booked a playoff spot. However, the team seems well-prepared to face any challenge that comes their way in the playoffs.
