Maria Cummins, the mother of Australia Test captain Pat Cummins, died after a long illness.
Maria Cummins, the mother of Australia Test captain Pat Cummins, died after a long illness. Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed the news in a tweet on Friday morning, ahead of the start of Day 2 of India’s fourth Test against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. CA also confirmed that Australia’s players will wear “black armbands to show respect” for Pat Cummins and his family.
Following the conclusion of the second Test in Delhi last month, Cummins flew back home to be with his ailing mother, who was placed in palliative care.
“I feel most at ease being with my family. I am grateful for Cricket Australia’s and my teammates’ overwhelming support. Thank you for your patience “Cummins stated this while describing his decision to leave India.
The 29-year-old revealed that his mother, who was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time in 2005, had been battling a serious illness in recent weeks.
Cummins was named the 47th captain of the Australian Test team on November 26, 2021, following the resignation of veteran wicketkeeper-batter Tim Paine. He is the first fast bowler to be named Australia’s full-time Test captain.
