At the IPL 2023 auction in Kochi, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) bought six players. Sam Curran, an all-rounder for England, was their best buy. Besides him, they also brought in Sikandar Raza, a Zimbabwean all-rounder, and a few Indian players.
Before the mini-auction, PBKS had 32.2 crores left in its purse. They had to fill nine spots, with up to three spots available overseas.
The Kings eliminated nine players from their IPL 2023 team before the auction. Mayank Agarwal, who was captain last year, Odean Smith, Vaibhav Arora, Benny Howell, Ishan Porel, Ansh Patel, Prerak Mankad, Sandeep Sharma, and Writtick Chatterjee were all let go.
After a fierce bidding war with Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab spent a lot of money to sign Sam Curran. Curran, who also played for the team in 2019, was bought for 18.25 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history.
Sikandar Raza, a Zimbabwean all-rounder, was also signed by Punjab for his base price of 50 lahks. Raza was in great shape at the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, and he will give the team more power.
Last season, Punjab finished in sixth place, so they chose senior batter Shikhar Dhawan to be their captain. They will try to win a championship this season.
