Sanjay Manjrekar on India’s embarrassing defeat to Australia in Indore. In the third Test, India lost to Australia by nine wickets.
India beat Australia in the first two Tests in the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, Australia humiliated India in the third Test, which took place in Indore. In the third Test, the team led by Rohit Sharma lost both times to spin, and they never looked like they were going to win.
Sanjay Manjrekar, a former cricket player, says the hosts were too confident and still hungover from winning the last two tests. He also said that the players were trying to beat Australia too soon, which caused them to play too many aggressive shots without figuring out the situation well enough.
“I got the sense that India was carrying the hangover from their previous dominance in the series. ” Manjrekar stated.
“India won the toss and chose to bat first. So it was up to them to decide what to do in the game right away. I thought they were trying to win too soon and didn’t have the right pitch. So many hard shots were taken because they thought they knew what the pitch was. I think that’s where India went wrong,” he said.
Ravi Shastri, who used to be India’s head coach, was also unhappy with how the team played in the third Test. The 60-year-old thinks that the Indian team was too cocky and didn’t try hard enough, which led to their loss in Indore. Shastri also said that the Indian team took things for granted in the third Test and stopped being careful.
