After Impact Player’s announcement, another rule will go into effect for IPL 2023. Starting with IPL 2023, teams can announce their starting lineups after the toss has been made. Each team will be given two team sheets, and once they know whether they will be bowling or batting first, they can choose which team sheet to use. According to a BCCI source, modifying the toss rule will enable them to prepare for the impact player. The IPL’s governing body has already sent a note outlining the toss change to each of the ten franchises.
“Currently, the captains have to swap team lists before the coin toss. This has been changed so that teams can choose their best XI based on whether they are batting or bowling first. This is done right after the toss. It will also help the teams figure out how to deal with the impact player.”
Before IPL, the same rule was already in place in the SA 20 League. In South Africa 20, teams used to put 13 names on the list when the captains came to do the toss. After the captains flipped a coin, they could choose their final 11 players. Former South Africa captain and director of the SA 20 tournament, Graeme Smith, said that this rule was implemented to ensure that both teams played on the same level and that the toss didn’t matter as much.
On March 31, Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans (GT) play MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. This is the first game of the IPL 2023. It will be interesting to see how this new rule changes the outcome of IPL matches.
