India lost a series at home for the first time in four years. Australia beat the hosts by a score of 2-1. In the last ODI at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, Steve Smith and his team beat the Men in Blue by 21 runs. Suryakumar Yadav’s performance was by far the worst. He had a chance to solidify his place in the 50-over format, but he failed to do so. In fact, the top T20 batter didn’t score a single run during the whole series, and former Indian leg spinner and commentator Laxman Sivaramakrishnan wasn’t impressed with how he played.
Suryakumar Yadav was out with the first pitch in all three series games. So, he only got to face three balls in the whole series and didn’t even score a single run. So, he became the first Indian batter in history to have three “golden ducks” in a row. Mitchell Starc’s fast, fiery bowling got rid of him in the first two games, and Ashton Agar got rid of the aggressive right-handed batter in the last game.
In a series of tweets, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan criticized the Indian team management for always picking Suryakumar Yadav in all formats based on how well he did in T20Is. This is similar to how Venkatesh Prasad criticized KL Rahul.
“SKY is an excellent example of how only some players get protection. Fifty-over cricket is different from T20 cricket. Just don’t put red-ball and white-ball cricket in other groups. Oh, and SKY was a member of the Test team. You can’t choose a player for all formats based on how well he does in T20,” “Sivaramakrishnan stated.
It takes a lot of skill to be creative, but if that’s the only way you play, you’ll get found out in games that last a little longer, like 50-over games or Tests. “Good morning to everyone,” the ex-leggie said in a second tweet.
Laxman Sivaramakrishnan also answered tweets from people who tried to defend Suryakumar Yadav’s performances. “But SKY got out on the first ball in all three games, so no one knows if he has the speed for ODIs,” said one Twitter user. “Don’t you remember SKY getting caught in the slips by Lockie Ferguson?” replied the former leg spinner.
