Since the Indian Premier League (IPL) began in 2008, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been among the most famous teams. Even though the Super Kings are one of the most popular teams in the IPL, 2022 was one of their worst years. With only four wins out of 14 games, the team was second from the bottom in the points table.
CSK tried to turn things around by getting some new players at the auction at the end of last year. Ben Stokes, an all-rounder from England, was bought for a massive 16.25 crores, which was a big deal. Since their charismatic all-arounder Dwayne Bravo was retired, the team chose to spend a lot of money on Stokes before the 2023 season.
The Super Kings also bought Ajinkya Rahane, an all-rounder named Nishant Sindhu, a batsman named Shaik Rasheed, and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler named Ajay Mandal at the sale.
As the season was about to start, the company showed off and gave the new players their CSK jerseys. On its Twitter account, pictures from the event were shared.
Ben Stokes will wear the same number (55) for CSK as he does for England. He will be hoping to use the luck he had when England won the 50-over and T20 World Cups to help CSK win their fifth IPL title.
Rasheed and Rahane’s shirts were given to them by captain MS Dhoni. Sindhu’s jersey was given to him by head coach Stephen Fleming.
Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of CSK, and N. Srinivasan, the owner of CSK, also gave shirts to other new players on the team.
The Chennai Super Kings have been the most consistent team in IPL history. One of India’s best leaders of all time, MS Dhoni, has been in charge of the team. The team has only missed the playoffs twice, and in the 13 seasons they have played, they have made it to the finals an incredible nine times.
They have won the IPL four times, second only to the Mumbai Indians, who have won the title five times.
On the other hand, the Super Kings have been getting worse over the past three IPL seasons. Even though they won the title in 2021, they didn’t make the playoffs in 2020 or 2022. With their new players, the team will try to do as well as they did in 2021 and tie the Mumbai Indians for the most IPL titles won by a club.
On March 31, 2023, the first match of IPL 2023 will be between the reigning champion Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings.
