Arjun Tendulkar stole the spotlight after brilliantly defending 20 runs in the final over to give the Mumbai Indians a historic win in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. With SunRisers Hyderabad behind by eight wickets, Arjun gave just five runs and picked up Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the penultimate ball of the game. It was his first wicket of the competition after going wicketless in his debut against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) last week.
Arjun Tendulkar, the son of famous batsman Sachin Tendulkar, finished the game with stats of 1//18 in 2.5 overs.
Sachin was anxious during Arjun’s final over, but that all changed when the 23-year-old picked up his first IPL wicket.
As MI triumphed by 14 runs, prominent cricket broadcaster and analyst Harsha Bhogle tweeted a message that summed up Sachin’s feelings as a father.
“I have seen @sachin_rt for so many years now, but the look on his face after Arjun bowled the last over was so different and so beautiful,” Bhogle wrote on Twitter.
Sachin and Arjun are the first father and son team to play in the IPL.
Arjun stated after the match that he focused on his release and length.
“Obviously, getting my first IPL wicket was fantastic.” I only had to concentrate on what was at hand, the strategy, and carrying it through. Our strategy was to bowl wide and bring the long boundary into play, forcing the batsman to hit it to the longer side.
“I enjoy bowling, and I am happy to bowl whenever the captain requests it, as long as I stick to the team plan and give my all.”
“I just concentrated on my release and bowling good lengths and lines in the beginning.” If it swings, that’s great; if it doesn’t, that’s OK, too.” When asked if he talks cricket with his father, he replied, “We talk about cricket, we discuss tactics before the game, and he tells me every game to back what I practice.”
