The captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Virat Kohli, had nothing but good things to say about Glenn Maxwell after the Australian all-rounder scored 77 runs to help RCB beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven runs on Sunday in the Indian Premier League.
Maxwell won the Player of the Match award after scoring his third fifty of the season in just 27 balls in the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader. The Aussie also put together a game-changing 127-run partnership with Faf du Plessis (62 off 39), who got his fifth half-century of the season for the third wicket. This helped Bangalore get back on track after a rough start and reach a tough 189/9.
“Maxi and Faf’s counterattack was even better than the one in Chennai because the field was better that day.” In only four overs, Maxi won the game. “We thought 160 might be enough, but the way they played helped us get to 190,” Kohli said at the end of the game.
Maxwell, meanwhile, said that his excellent start to the season was due to the freedom the RCB leadership group gave him.
“They’ve given me the freedom to go out there and show myself. “I came into the season in good shape, and having the trust of my teammates makes all the difference,” said the “Big Show.”
Kohli also gave seamer Harshal Patel a lot of credit for his 3/32 and an excellent final over, which helped limit RR to 182/6.
“He always bowls the tough overs, which aren’t easy at Chinnaswamy.” He’s finished games against DC and also today. So he deserves a lot of praise for what he has done.”
A straight hit from Suyash Prabhudessai ran out Shimron Hetmyer. RR captain Sanju Samson stated why the team sent Ravichandran Ashwin instead of Jason Holder to join Dhruv Jurel at the center.
“It’s all about getting the flow going.” Usually, Hetty does that for us, but he had a bad day, so one shot here and there does the trick. The thoughts keep changing. When a wicket falls depends on how the wicket plays. Ashwin has a lot of knowledge and has done well in the last couple of games when the heat was on. “He had a six and a four in the game against Ahmedabad, and we felt we could count on his experience,” Samson said.
