After Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bowled first in their IPL 2023 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, stand-in leader Virat Kohli wasn’t in the best of moods. Kohli and RCB lost to KKR by 21 runs, and the home team’s bowler was carted around again for a 200-plus total.
Nitish Rana’s team got off to a good start when KKR’s starter Jason Roy hit 56 runs off 29 balls. He and Narayan Jagadeesan scored 83 runs together in their first partnership. In a film that went viral, Kohli was seen pouting on the field as Roy hit left-arm spinning all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed for four sixes in one over. Shahbaz only bowled that one over, and 25 runs were scored against him in it.
RCB is the team that has given up 200 runs the most times in IPL history. They have done it 24 times, one more than the Punjab Kings, who have done it 23 times. After them are KKR with 18, Chennai Super Kings with 17, Delhi Capitals with 16, Rajasthan Royals with 14, Sunrisers Hyderabad with 14, and Mumbai Indians with 11.
We should have lost: Virat Kohli, captain of the RCB.
Kohli was angry after KKR beat them and ended their four-match losing streak in the IPL 2023. The stand-in captain for RCB said that his team deserved to lose.
“To be honest, we just gave them the match.” We should have lost. We needed to be better at our jobs. We hit the ball well, but our defense needed to be better. This was something that was given to them for free. “On the field, we missed two chances, which cost us 25 to 30 runs,” Kohli said during the presentation after the game.
Nitish Rana, the leader of KKR, was happy with how hard his team worked as a whole. “Today, we wanted to put up a number and hope that spin would come in. We thought it would turn because it was dry. So, it didn’t really turn, but our bowlers were there. Suyash has always been the first one to raise his hand and say, “I’ll do it.” “We hope to do what we did today again and again,” Rana said after the game.
Even though Kohli hit his 49th IPL fifty, RCB was only able to score 179 runs out of 201. The KKR team is owned by Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan. Varun Chakravarthy got 3/27 and Andre Russell got 2/29.
