Rohit Sharma is the leader of Team India, and he is getting ready to lead his team against Australia in the World Test Championship final, which starts on Wednesday at the Oval in London. Rohit is the captain of the team. In 2021, he played a Test match against England at the Oval and made his only century outside of the subcontinent.
Rohit is the only Indian batter with an average of more than 50 at the Oval. If India wants to win the WTC for the first time after losing to New Zealand in the last final, they will need Rohit to do well.
“Look, I think it’s pretty tough for hitters to hit in England in general.” If you are willing to work hard, you can be successful,” Rohit said at an ICC event in London on Sunday called “An Afternoon with Test Legends.”
Rohit, who was India’s best batter in four Tests against England in 2021, talked about his own life while sitting next to Australian captain Pat Cummins, Ross Taylor, and Ian Bell.
“In 2021, I learned that you are never in a set, and the weather is always changing. You need to keep focusing for longer amounts of time, and when it’s time to take on the players, you’ll know what to do. “The most important thing is to be out there and know what your strengths are,” the Indian leader said.
Rohit thinks that it wouldn’t be a bad idea for someone who is good with numbers and analysis, like he has been with the Mumbai Indians and Team India over the years, to know how other players who have done well at the Oval scored.
“I won’t try to be like them (the great players), but it would be helpful to know how they score. I’ve learned at Oval that the edges of the squares are pretty quick,” he said.
Rohit has been switching forms for more than a decade. He knows it’s hard, but he likes the challenge and being able to change his method as needed. “That (the change of forms) has no doubt been the hardest part. You know you play in more than one way. You have to be able to change your mind and method quickly. You have to talk to yourself and prepare your mind.
“Many of our younger guys have never done that before. “A lot of us have been doing it for a long time and are good at it,” the captain said.
Even though he has won five IPL titles, one T20 World Cup, and a Champions Trophy, the 35-year-old Indian captain still thinks that Test cricket is the best. “It keeps putting you to the test. You want these things to happen. When you look forward, it brings out the best in you as a person. We have done well in Test cricket over the past three or four years. Now it’s about getting over that last hurdle and giving young people the courage they need to play the way they want to,” he said.
