Uganda qualified for the Twenty20 World Cup for the first time in their cricketing history by defeating Rwanda in the final match of the Africa region qualifier. They thereby denied Zimbabwe a berth in the main event, which is slated to take place in the West Indies and the United States the following year.
Namibia was the initial team to secure one of the two available qualification places for the tournament proper earlier in the competition.
Prior to 30 November final round of matches, Uganda were heavy favorites to prevail despite facing a hapless Rwanda. In order to surpass Uganda in the points table, Zimbabwe needed to secure a victory over Kenya while also hoping for Uganda to lose to Rwanda. However, Rwanda never recovered from a wicket loss in the very first over of their innings.
Only two Rwandan batsmen reached double digits as the batting order collapsed in an extraordinary fashion. Rwanda was ultimately bowled out for 65, a total that Uganda easily tracked down in order to secure a nine-wicket victory and advance to the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Zimbabwe made every effort from their end, as in-form captain Sikandar Raza scored 82 off 48 balls, including eight sixes, after moving up the order. Zimbabwe ultimately scored 217 runs on the board, but that loss to Uganda four days prior ultimately cost them.
