AB de Villiers only had personal records in IPL

Gambhir called Raina a better player and performer than AB de Villiers.

AB de Villiers South African’s Cricketer

Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian opener, frequently makes news for his outspoken views on the game of cricket and its players. This time, Gambhir sought to evaluate the contributions of two renowned batsmen, AB de Villiers and Suresh Raina, in both the IPL and international cricket.

But, for those who are unfamiliar, the comparison was made in terms of IPL performance and its impact on the team. Raina of the Chennai Super Kings, according to Gambhir, has been a better player and performer than the RCB mainstay. Furthermore, the former player, who himself skippered in the IPL, noted that Raina has won four IPL trophies, whilst de Villiers has never lifted the trophy even once.

Furthermore, he stated that it appeared that the Proteas star simply played for personal glory rather than for the team’s cause. As a result, the southpaw’s impact and stature are more widely recognized than de Villiers’.

‘Anybody could have got runs in Chinnaswamy stadium,’ says Gautam Gambhir of AB de Villiers’ IPL performance.
“In the IPL, AB de Villiers only had personal records. In Chinnaswamy Stadium, anyone might have scored “During an interview with Star Sports, the seasoned opener reportedly stated. Gambhir expressed his thoughts on de Villiers during a talk about the present series between India and Australia.

Yet, it is important noting that Gambhir’s supporters are divided. Several fans supported the former Indian opener’s statements, while others decided to mock him. In terms of de Villiers’ IPL records, Mr. 360 has appeared in 184 matches and scored 5162 runs at a decent average of 39.71. Between 2008 and 2021, he represented the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and Royal Challengers Bangalore, scoring three centuries and forty fifties.

Raina’s performances, on the other hand, have been outstanding. He has played 205 matches with the CSK franchise, scoring one century and 38 half centuries with an average of 32.52 and a strike rate of 136.76. Raina is also known as ‘Mr. IPL’ by his admirers due to his unwavering consistency.
