Team India struggled against Australia in the second One-Day International at Visakhapatnam, being bowled out for 117. Australia chased down the mark in just 11 overs, with openers Mitchell Marsh (66) and Travis Head (51) remaining at the crease to give their team a 10-wicket win. Mitchell Starc, who took his tenth five-wicket haul and wrecked havoc on India’s batting line-up, contributed the most to the memorable victory. Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul all failed badly as they fell to Starc’s scorching speed.
Australia benefits greatly from having a left-arm seamer like Starc. India’s all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin remarked that India has not been able to fill pacer Zaheer Khan’s shoes since his retirement. He went on to say that Indian batsmen are having a difficult time since they don’t have a left-arm seamer.
“India hasn’t found a proper left-arm seamer since Zaheer Khan retired.” It is pointless to suggest that we have difficulty while facing a left-arm seamer because he changes the game dynamics. Trent Boult swung the ball and took Virat Kohli out in the 2019 World Cup semi-final,” Ashwin remarked on his YouTube account.
“It’s very different when you’re facing that angle. Virat Kohli will face Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Umesh Yadav in the nets. They’re all terrific bowlers. When a left-arm seamer bowls from over the stumps, he is bringing the stumps into play for the first time. How many right-arm seamers are currently bowling inswing? We can’t put the opponent under pressure because we don’t have a left-arm seamer,” he continued.
Ashwin went on to laud Starc, saying that he had surpassed the stature of Australia veteran Brett Lee in ODI cricket.
“Shaun Tait believes Mitchell Starc is on the verge of becoming an all-time great.” But, in my opinion, he has already passed that point. Australia has produced a number of all-time greats, including Glenn McGrath. In one-day internationals, though, Starc is on par with Brett Lee. “I believe Starc has surpassed Brett Lee’s stature in ODI cricket,” he continued.
