After Gambhir, Sreesanth has weighed on the 'Dhoni debate'

Gambhir said that Dhoni would have broken all records if he had played at No. 3. Sreesanth has spoken out about Dhoni’s batting position.

A few days after Gautam Gambhir shocked his critics with a nice comment about MS Dhoni, former Indian bowler Sreesanth made a statement that added to the same argument. India won the limited-overs tournament for the second time in 2011 with Dhoni as their boss.

Gambhir, who was an important part of Dhoni’s Team India for many years, talked about the former Indian captain during the Asia Cup broadcast. People on the internet think that Gambhir always has something against Dhoni, but the former India player and full-time cricket commentator recently surprised many with his thoughts on the memory of the Ranchi legend.

The former India opener praised Dhoni for what he has done for Indian cricket that no one else has done. Gambhir says that because Dhoni was captain, he couldn’t hit as well as he could have. Gambhir said that if Dhoni had played at the No. 3 spot for India, he would have broken several hitting marks. The former captain of India went on to say that Dhoni gave up his international runs in order to win prizes.

‘Credit should go to Dhoni, but he didn’t…’

In an interview with CricAdvisor, former India pacer Sreesanth brought up Gambhir’s recent comments about Dhoni and said that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain did a great job as a finisher in international cricket. “Recently, Gautam Bhai said that Dhoni would have gotten more runs if he had played at No. 3. But for Dhoni, it was always more important to win more games than to get more runs. “He could always win games when his team needed him to, and he also won two World Cups,” Sreesanth said.

India became the best Test team in the world because of Dhoni. The leader from Ranchi is the only one to have won all three of the most important ICC titles. India’s match against New Zealand in the semi-finals turned out to be Dhoni’s last international game. The former captain of India said he would quit in 2020. “Dhoni should get credit, but he didn’t give up his place at bat. He came up with a way to figure out which players would be best for the team in which roles and then put them there. He was able to get the best out of his teams as leader. “He has always put the team ahead of himself,” Sreesanth said.
