Ebadot Hossain will miss the impending World Cup due to a knee injury, a Bangladesh Cricket Board representative confirmed to CricAdvisor on Wednesday.
“He (Ebadot) will not be available to play for us in the World Cup,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin told CricAdvisor on Wednesday.
“It’s a big blow for us as he will require operation for his knee. Following the operation, he will certainly take some time for rehabilitation purpose, at least three to four months, so we cannot consider him for World Cup,” he said.
against Afghanistan in a series. Since his 50-over début last year, the 29-year-old pacer has represented Bangladesh in 12 ODIs. For the Asia Cup, he was succeeded by Tanzim Sakib.
Both Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and ODI captain Shakib al Hasan were saddened by Ebadot’s departure.
“It is very sad that Ebadot is not with us because he was an important part of our team and taking that into consideration it is quite disappointing,” Shakib had told reporters during the pre-series press conference in Dhaka on August 26.
“Ebadot is one of our impact bowlers, the fastest bowler out of the five fast bowlers we played in the last few series. So, it’s a big loss, and to replace him straight away it’s a hard task,” added Hathurusingha in the presser attended by both of them.
The bowling attack’s dynamics are altered by Ebadot’s absence. He was responsible for bowling the middle overs, enabling Taskin Ahmed to use the new ball. The pace of Ebadot helped him flourish in the middle overs; it remains to be seen how Taskin will slot into that role.
Hasan Mahmud is more effective at bowling at the beginning and end of an innings than in the midst. Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam are the other candidates to replace Ebadot, but only time will tell if they are as effective as Taskin.
