The two-time winners of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), haven’t had an excellent start to the 2023 season. After regular leader Shreyas Iyer got hurt in the back, they lost their first game and played in the rain against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). KKR’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan from Bangladesh has been ruled out for the season.
Shakib is the captain of Bangladesh in both Tests and Twenty20 Internationals. He has not joined the KKR team and has told the Kolkata club that he will not be available for the whole season. People say he isn’t there because he has to deal with personal and international problems. But Liton Das, one of Shakib’s teammates, will likely join the KKR team later this week.
Shakib, who is 36 years old and was bought by the team for INR 1.5 crore (INR 15 million) as his starting price, is said to have called the KKR management and asked to be excused from the current season. Once a player has been bought at the draft, he cannot be let go by a franchise. Only after an edition can it be done.
People think that KKR will choose a new player soon. But Shakib’s skills will be missed by the team in the IPL in 2023. Shakib has played 71 games, scored 1,839 runs, and taken 63 wickets. He helped KKR win in both 2012 and 2014.
