Richard hails Elgar but wants to end the perfect farewell.

Dean Elgar
Dean Elgar, the opponent of India captain Rohit Sharma, received high praise.

In recent years, Dean Elgar has been an adversary for India, both as a player and as captain. Elgar set a notable example during the previous India tour of South Africa, amassing 235 runs to tie for second-most in the series as the Proteas overcame a 1-0 deficit and triumphed 2-1.

Elgar, most recently, was named the Player of the Match in the inaugural Test following a magnificent 185 that effectively dismissed India. By losing an innings, the visitors prolonged the time until which they could achieve a series victory in South Africa.

Elgar, in the absence of Temba Bavuma, will serve as captain of South Africa during his final international match. Rohit Sharma lavished his opposite number with praise, but he intends to dismiss the southpaw in his final outing.

“He’s been their mainstay for a number of years now. Gets a lot of runs against us for sure but again a quality player,” Rohit said at the pre-match press conference. “Somebody who puts a big price on his wicket and doesn’t throw it away just like that. got to get him out.

“It will be important if we can get him early and try to see what the other batters do with him not being there. We know how important he is to them. He likes to score big runs and bat long as well.

“We have got our plans. Hope it works out for us, it clearly didn’t work out in the last game but hopefully, it will. Hopefully, we can make it miserable.
