He made his return to the national side after three years in 2020 after a successful domestic season with the Titans, but his last appearance came in the 2020 Boxing Day Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. De Bruyn finished his international career with 13 Tests, scoring 468 runs at an average of 19.50, including a Test century against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2018.
The reason behind Theunis de Bruyn’s premature retirement was not disclosed, but he expressed his eagerness to explore his future opportunities.
