Beth Mooney back as Gujarat Giants captain

Beth Mooney, a batter from Australia, has been given the responsibility of leading Gujarat Giants once more in front of the second season of the Women’s Premier League, which will begin on February 23. In addition to Michael Klinger becoming the new head coach of the Giants, Sneh Rana has been appointed to serve as Mooney’s deputy. Mooney was unable to play in the opening game of the season due to an injury, so Rana took over as captain of the team. This was the first year that the team had competed in the inaugural season.

The first game of the season for the Gujarat Giants will take place on February 25 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, specifically against the Mumbai Indians.

During the upcoming World Premier League season, the fast bowler Lea Tahuhu, who hails from New Zealand, is scheduled to join Gujarat Giants as a replacement. In place of the Australian speedster Lauren Cheatle, who was unable to compete earlier this year due to a neck injury, the 33-year-old participant will now compete. The latter will be need to go through a medical process, but the length of time it will take for them to recover is still unknown. As the new overseas recruits for the season, Tahuhu joins Phoebe Litchfield of Australia and Kathryn Bryce of Scotland as the new players from other countries.

Prior to the beginning of the second season of the Women’s Premier League, which will begin on February 23 in Bangalore, Michael Klinger, a former cricketer from Australia, has been assigned to the position of head coach of the Gujarat Giants. Alongside Mithali Raj, who serves as a mentor and counselor, and Nooshin Al Khadeer, who is a bowling coach, he becomes a member of the backroom staff.

Klinger’s most recent coaching position was with the Sydney Thunder of the Women’s Big Bash League, where he worked as an assistant, and this was his most recent coaching assignment. From 2019 until 2021, he was also the head coach of the Melbourne Renegades, who competed in the Big Bash League. When he retired from playing in 2019, he was the player with the most runs ever scored in the BBL.

“The Gujarat Giants have a chance to do something special in the Season 2 of the Women’s Premier League. I am eagerly looking forward to working with cricketing legend in Mithali Raj, who has played a transformative role in women’s cricket in India. Together with the Adani Sportsline family, Mithali Raj, and the rest of the team, I hope to take the team to ultimate glory,” Klinger said.

Additionally, Raj expressed his approval of the appointment and stated that he believes the squad will gain from his expertise with the bat.

“Working with Michael will help bring out the best in the Gujarat Giants players. . His expertise with the bat is also well-known and will surely benefit some of the younger members of our team. We look forward to having Klinger in the dressing room. We are sure of attaining success with him as head coach,” Raj said.

A match against Mumbai Indians will mark the beginning of the World Premier League season for Gujarat Giants on February 25.

The second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will begin on February 23, with a match between the finalists from the previous season, the Mumbai Indians, and the Delhi Capitals. The match will take place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The game is all set to begin at 7:30 o’clock in the evening.

According to the schedule that was made up by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the second match will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz. The concluding match is scheduled to take place on March 17, with an elimination game taking place on March 15. Both games are going to take place in Delhi.

When it comes to this year’s event, the caravan format will be utilized, while Bengaluru and Delhi will serve as the host cities for the matches.
