Dinesh Karthik, a veteran wicketkeeper who also bats, recently said that India’s top-order hitters haven’t scored much in their recent Test matches.
He thought that their string of bad games was because they were playing on tough grounds. Karthik said that the rates of their best hitters have gone down because they can’t score big hundreds even at home because of the fast bowlers.
Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Virat Kohli all failed to play in the first test of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC 2023) final, which is still going on.
During a chat on the cricket news site, Karthik talked about the issue.
“As we have seen, Indian hitters have also faced tough pitches, which doesn’t help their rates. But they put themselves in a tough spot because when they went abroad and didn’t win the series, they put pressure back on themselves, he said. “So, they have to go back to the home series and make it happen if they want to get to where we are now in England, which is the WTC final. They have had to adapt to the weather in India, and most of the time, that has helped the spinners. It was over in two or three days, and in games like that, you can’t get the big hundreds we’re talking about, which is why the scores are so low,” Karthik said.
Karthik also pointed out that India isn’t the only team whose top-order bowlers haven’t done well recently. He said that, except for Australia and England, all the other teams have the same problem.
“Over time, you will say that the top order, like everyone else in the world, has had a hard time.” I think England and Australia are slowly but steadily getting better, but the averages around the world haven’t been that great, and India has also been pretty average,” Karthik said.
