Shubman Gill is injured and may miss several days, if not longer. A team official reported that he is ill. It is still uncertain whether he will be able to play India’s first game against Australia on October 8.
On Friday, October 6, it was reported that the opener is ailing from dengue, but the precise nature of Gill’s health issue could not be confirmed. A squad official told CricAdvisor, “He’s not feeling well, and the medical staff is attentively monitoring him. We hope he will recover soon.”
After scoring 74 and 104 in the first two games of the recently concluded bilateral ODI series against Australia, Gill was rested for the third and final game. India’s two official World Cup warm-up games were subsequently rained out, but Gill traveled with the team.
Gill (24) was unable to participate in Thursday’s Indian team nets, lending credence to rumors regarding Rohit Sharma’s opening companion in the upcoming match against Australia. One of Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul could be assigned the responsibility.
