5th Match, 1996: Hudson hundred sinks Netherlands
Netherlands’ outstanding debut at the World Cup culminated in a lackluster performance against South Africa in the final league encounter. Andrew Hudson’s 132-ball 161 propelled the Proteas to victory when they batted first. He contributed to a 186-run opening partnership with Gary Kirsten (83 off 98 balls) as South Africa amassed a commanding 328 for 3 in their allotted 50 overs. The Netherlands were never going to contest that score, but they performed admirably, batting out all 50 overs and finishing with 168 for 8
16th March 2007: Another loss for Dutch as Gibbs smashes 6 sixes in an over
South Africa trounced the Netherlands by 221 runs as they amassed 353 in 40 overs in a rain-marred game. The Dutch in reply huffed and puffed to 132 for 9 in 40 overs. Earlier Kallis got a hundred and fifties from Smith, Gibbs and Boucher powered SA to 353. Gibbs made headlines as he smashed 6 sixes off Daan van Bunge to become the first batter in ODI cricket to achieve the feat. Ryan Ten Doeschate in reply scored a fifty for Netherlands but others failed to come to the party. It was an all-round performance from the SA bowling unit as almost everyone chipped in with a wicket to dismantle the Dutch.
March 3, 2011: Amla and ABD hammer tons and drown the Dutch brigade
Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers both scored centuries to aid the Proteas in scoring 351 runs in 50 overs. This paved the way for a massive victory, as the Dutch were dismissed for 120 in response. Imran Tahir excelled with the delivery, collecting three wickets. The spinners were more efficient, claiming six of the ten wickets. Even though Ryan ten Doeschate had taken three wickets earlier, the South African team went on a leather search. This was the third meeting between these factions, and the Dutch unit’s third loss.
