On Thursday, the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the appointment of former Twenty20 head coach Sridharan Sriram as technical consultant of the national cricket team for the upcoming ICC World Cup, scheduled to begin in India on October 5.
“Yes, we have appointed Sriram as technical consultant for the forthcoming World Cup,” Khaled Mahmud, team director of Bangladesh team for the upcoming World Cup, confirmed to CricAdvisor
BCB earlier appointed Sriram as technical consultant ahead of T20 World Cup last year. At that time, the board decided to implement divided coaching and entrusted Test and ODI responsibilities to Russell Domingo, who later resigned from his position.
Later, BCB replaced Domingo with Chandika Hathurusingha, who was appointed as the head coach for all formats. This signified the conclusion of Sriram’s first stint with Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s all-format captain Shakib al Hasan is a great admirer of Sriram and always supported him during the T20 World Cup, while the former Indian star is credited with being a major factor in the success of Najmul Hossain, whom he supported against all odds in the T20 World Cup and who repaid the faith by becoming his country’s highest run-scorer in the tournament.
