Match Prediction:
New Zealand and Australia will face off in the first T20I of their three-match series. This is excellent preparation for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup in the United States and Caribbean later this year.
Winning Chances:
Toss Prediction:
The match will take place at Sky Stadium in Wellington. It will host its first Twenty20 International since 2021. The last two tosses in T20I cricket here resulted in decisions to bat first.
The team that wins the toss this time will most likely do the same thing. Six of the last eight T20Is at this venue have been won by the team that batted first.
Weather Report:
There is no rain anticipated in Wellington on matchday. We should have a full fixture.
Pitch Report:
The previous three first-innings totals in T20I cricket at this site were 142, 156, and 208. This is a relatively high-scoring venue. A first-inning score of around 170-plus can be considered competitive.
The square boundaries are shorter than those at other international cricket facilities in New Zealand. The pitch may provide extra bounce, if not additional turn.
Head to Head:
In their last five T20I meetings, Australia has won three to New Zealand’s two. The team that bowled first won two of their last three T20Is.
Australia Preview:
Australia will also benefit from the departure of New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson. He has also been sidelined due to injuries. The Australian batsmen, in particular, will be aware that opportunities will arise against an opposition bowling attack that does not contain Jamieson, Neesham, or Mitchell.
This will be Australia’s final T20 International series before the T20 World Cup. They’ll be eager to try out different combinations and fringe players before deciding on their final roster for the major tournament. Aaron Hardie, a fellow all-rounder, has taken over for the injured Marcus Stoinis in this series.
Matthew Wade, the vice-captain and wicketkeeper-batsman, is not available for the series opener. Cameron Green, an all-rounder, is also not available. Green will attend the IPL later this year. Nathan Ellis, the Australians’ fast bowler, has returned. His accuracy, speed, and distinctive yorkers could be crucial in this competition.
Australia Squad Preview:
David Warner, Mitchell Marsh (c), Glenn Maxwell, Steven Smith, Josh Inglis (wk), Tim David, Travis Head, Nathan Ellis, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood
New Zealand Preview:
The ICC now ranks New Zealand as the second best men’s T20I team. They can use this advantage against the Australians, who are in fourth place. This is going to be a fantastic match between these two longtime enemies.
Trent Boult, the Black Caps’ fast bowler, is back for this series. His presence can provide significant momentum to the pace attack, which also includes all-rounder Josh Clarkson. Clarkson, an uncapped player, will face a significant test in his first series against Australia.
Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell will not be available for the New Zealand team. Williamson is on paternity leave, while Mitchell is injured. All-rounder Jimmy Neesham and spinner Michael Bracewell are also out. In the absence of these first-choice players, the rest of New Zealand’s roster must step up.
New Zealand Squad Predicted:
Finn Allen, Devon Conway (wk), Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson Mitchell Santner (c), Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Ish Sodhi, Adam Milne
Australia vs New Zealand Prediction:
Both New Zealand and Australia will be fancying their chances of success in the T20 World Cup later this year so will be looking to get off to a strong start in this series. New Zealand have depth with both bat and ball but player for player it is hard to look beyond the visitors. We are predicting a close game but are backing Australia to win in Wellington.
