Right off the bat, we need to improve our PowerPlay game: Amre

The Delhi Capitals players, who have lost their first three games of the IPL 2023 season, have received some consoling news amid all the public disappointment expressed by the team owner and head coach. Those weren’t merely defeats. It almost appeared as though Lucknow Super Giants, Gujarat Titans, and Rajasthan Royals were not even in the running for victory as they easily defeated their challenge.

The bowling has lacked aggression, the fielding has been patchy, and the batting has been a massive letdown. However, batting coach Pravin Amre had confidence in the players going into their fourth game against the Mumbai Indians. He draws inspiration from the 2015 title-winning campaign of the Mumbai Indians, their upcoming opponents, without looking too far beyond them.

Amre remarked on Monday in New Delhi, “We are currently concentrating on the present and we are anticipating our match against Mumbai Indians.” Additionally, it’s a plus for us because we’re playing at home. IPL is a lengthy competition; we’ve seen teams that dropped seven (five) games but still prevailed.

“We as a coaching staff also have faith in this team. We kept 20 of the guys. These boys are people we know. It’s not as if we are ignorant of their skill. When you don’t start well in huge tournaments, it occasionally happens. However, how you conclude matters. We have faith in this group.

Numerous issues with batting need to be addressed. With the exception of David Warner, none of the batters in the top order have stayed long enough to have an impact. And after hitting two half-centuries, DC’s captain has scored at a pitifully sluggish rate of 117.04.

With only 19 runs in three innings, his opening partner, Prithvi Shaw, has had a rougher time. Amre has continued to believe in the DC opener and anticipates a quick turnaround from him. “Prithvi can hit the ball well. He hasn’t met our expectations, but that is true. In the upcoming games, we are hopeful that he will perform well for us. We are all aware of his talent; it just depends on where he clicks.

DC has recorded 47/2, 52/2, and 38/3 in the PowerPlay in the first three games. While two out of three may appear like good starts, those were only made possible by the extra runs the bowlers gave up. Amre acknowledged the need to enhance the powerplay performance.

We need to improve our powerplay strategy at the plate, he remarked. “Your team is in a different situation when your top four batters score runs. Who will score those runs for our team will be determined.

“We’re trying to figure out how to strike that balance in the powerplay, where both aggressiveness and caution are both upheld. A score of 50 to 1 is also a commendable result, and our think tank can work on ways to get that result in the upcoming games.

Axar Patel’s recent impressive form, which included a sharp 36 against Gujarat Titans, has been one of the bright spots in the batting department. Amre acknowledged that the thinking group might take into account providing him a more significant role with the bat this season.

“Axar is a solid option for us. He has now been working with us for five years. He batted for India in a terrific manner. Given that he bats left-handed, he is a contender. We’ve been considering how to make the best use of him.
