Gavaskar opposes excluding Kohli from India’s plans for the T20 World Cup, saying that “His form should be observed.”

Since India was knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2022 in the semi-finals, players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and others have not been a part of India’s T20I plans, and Hardik Pandya has been the leader. With so many young Indian batters showing off their skills in the IPL, many people think that Kohli and Rohit have reached the end of their careers in the shortest version.

Still, the BCCI selectors haven’t said anything public about Kohli and Rohit’s future in T20Is. When asked about Kohli’s future in T20Is, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar said that his performance in the IPL 2024 should be watched before a decision is made on his selection.

Gavaskar told Sports Tak, “The next T20 World Cup will be held in 2024. Before that, there will be another IPL in March and April. He said, “At that point, you should look at Kohli’s shape. It’s pointless to talk about it now. If we’re talking about a future T20 international, say India’s game in June, then he definitely belongs on the team with the way he’s been playing.

‘If I were a selector and India were playing a T20I in June, I’d pick him,’ he said. However, in terms of the 2024 World Cup, which will be hosted in the West Indies and America, the form of players in the IPL must be examined first, and then we can discuss selection for the World Cup roster. On current form, Virat would be in my T20I lineup for India’s upcoming matches in the format. He has two hundreds [in the IPL 2023]. In T20 cricket, hitting two hundreds is difficult; even reaching 50 is challenging.

“This fantastic batter has two hundred.” If I were a selector and India was playing a T20 in June of this year, I would without a doubt pick him.”

Kohli finished the IPL 2023 for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with 639 runs, including six fifties and two back-to-back hundreds.
