India will open the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle with a visit to the West Indies in July, followed by high-profile bilateral series against Australia and England over the next two years. India will play two Test matches in the West Indies next month, at Dominica (July 12-16) and Trinidad (July 20-24). India reached the WTC finals in the first two editions, losing to New Zealand (2021) and Australia (2023).
The WTC 2023-25 cycle will begin on Friday, when England plays Australia in Birmingham.
Following the journey to the Windies, India’s next World Cup assignment will be against South Africa in December 2023 and January 2024.
Then, in January-February 2024, India will host England for a five-match Test series. They will then face Bangladesh in September-October 2024. Following that, New Zealand will travel to the subcontinent for a three-match Test series in October-November 2024.
Following those two relatively easy home schedules, India will go to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a five-match series between November 2024 and January 2025 that will also conclude India’s WTC activities.
“This championship has invigorated Test match cricket, bringing context for players and fans, as well as a high level of competitiveness as teams battle it out to be crowned World Test Champions at the end of the two-year cycle,” said Wasim Khan, ICC’s General Manager of Cricket.
“The large crowds at The Oval over the five days, as well as the incredible viewership levels around the world for the final, attest to the continued popularity of Test cricket.” The nine-team WTC system remains unaltered, with each team playing three home and as many away series over a two-year span, ending in a one-off Test final.
The previous edition’s points percentage method will be utilized to decide the leaderboard, with teams receiving 12 points for a win, 6 points for a tie, and 4 points for a draw.
