The Indian squad arrived in Durban, South Africa, on Wednesday, but several players are still awaiting their arrival. Ravindra Jadeja, who has been touring Europe, has yet to arrive in South Africa. A few of other members of the contingent will be flying in from Europe with him. Jadeja is the vice-captain for the three Twenty20 Internationals.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that star opener Shubman Gill would join his teammates, flying in from the United Kingdom. Gill took a break after the World Cup final on November 19.
Deepak Chahar has already stated that he will not be traveling with the team to South Africa owing to a family matter back home. It is reported that his father is ill, and it is unclear when the pacer will be able to fly to South Africa. However, insiders indicate he could arrive shortly, and no successor has been chosen. The Rajasthan and Chennai Super Kings pacer has also been named to the One-Day team.
It is believed that all of them, as well as a member of the support staff, have obtained authorization from the BCCI to join the team. All are anticipated to be in Durban well before the opening game on December 10.
SS Das and Salil Ankola, two selectors, are also expected to head to South Africa. Because there are two teams and numerous matches, including T20Is, ODIs, Tests, and three India A games, the BCCI has decided to send two selectors.
The Indian squad will hold their first training session since landing in Durban on Friday morning at the Kingsmead stadium. The series begins with a Twenty20 match on December 10. Following two additional T20Is on December 12 and 14 at Gqeberha and Wanderers in Johannesburg, there will be three ODIs on December 17, 19, and 21 at Johannesburg, Gqeberha, and Paarl. The first Test begins on Boxing Day at Centurion, and the second and final Test begins on January 3 at Newlands in Cape Town. Between December 11-14, December 20-22, and December 26-29, there will be three India A games.
