Mohammed Siraj sought by BCCI ACU for ‘inside information’ on RCB during IPL 2023

A man who had lost a lot of money on betting sought Mohammed Siraj for ‘inside knowledge’ about RCB.
According to news agency PTI, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s premier pacer Mohammed Siraj reported a “corrupt approach” to the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit earlier this week. According to the article, an unnamed man desired inside information about the Royal Challengers Bangalore after losing a big sum of money in an Indian Premier League match. The Team India pacer received a call and quickly notified ACU officials.

According to a person close to the situation, the contact was made by a driver from Hyderabad, not a bookie.

“He wasn’t approached by a bookie. It is a Hyderabadi motorist who is addicted to sports betting. He’d lost a lot of money and was looking for inside information from Siraj. Siraj promptly reported the approach. The man has been apprehended by law enforcement. More information is required,” a top BCCI source familiar with the situation told PTI on condition of anonymity.

The BCCI has increased its ACU activity since S Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan, and Ajit Chandila were arrested on spot fixing charges, along with former CSK team principal Gurunath Meiyappan.

Each team gets a designated ACU official who stays in the same hotel and monitors all movements on the ground. There is also a necessary ACU training for players on dos and don’ts, and there are punishments in place if any participant fails to report a corrupt approach.
