Regarding captaincy, Mahendra Singh Dhoni needs no introduction, but he just found a new fan when South African professional cricketer and Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis declared MS Dhoni the ‘IPL’s most outstanding player of all time.
When asked who is the greatest IPL player of all time on Jio Cinema’s Q20s, Plessis provided a direct answer and chose MS Dhoni.
Apart from Plessis, another cricket star, Harbhajan Singh, has declared Dhoni the greatest player in IPL history.
Dhoni played 98 international matches for India between 2006 and 2019, scoring 1.617 runs at an average of 37.60. MSD also played 350 One-Day Internationals for India between 2004 and 2019, scoring 10,277 runs at an average of 50.57. His best ODI total is an unbeaten 183. Dhoni scored 4,876 runs at an average of 38.09 in 90 test matches between 2005 and 2014, with his top score being 224.
MSD has played 241 matches for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, scoring 5,039 runs at an average of 39.70. His best IPL score is an undefeated 84 runs. However, MSD’s final IPL season will be in 2023.
“There is only one Mahendra Singh Dhoni.” There cannot be a bigger cricketer in India than him. “Someone could have scored more runs than him and taken more wickets than him, but no one has a bigger fanbase than him,” Singh remarked on Star Sports Cricket Live.
“Dhoni has taken this fandom to heart, and he also respects his teammates.” Anyone else would go insane walking with so much love and emotion, but Dhoni has carried this love and emotion in his heart for 15 years and hasn’t changed at all,” he continued.
When asked to select the best all-rounder in the IPL, Singh chose West Indian all-rounder Kieron Pollard.
Looking at Pollard’s IPL career, he has played 189 matches for the Mumbai Indians, amassing 3,412 runs at an average of 28.67, with 16 half-centuries. Pollard has also taken 69 wickets for MI, the five-time champions.
Pollard’s performance has not been up to par in the 15th season of the IPL 2022. He played 11 matches but only scored 144 runs at an average of 14.40, with a high of 25.
In response to the following query about who could be the next great thing, Singh pointed to RCB batter Rajat Patidar. It should be noted that RCB veteran AB de Villiers asked a similar question a few days back and named Rajat Patidar.
