India rising sensation Shubman Gill is the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for September 2023 after dominating a stretch of ODIs advance of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Gill defeated compatriot Mohammed Siraj and England opener Dawid Malan to win the award in September after scoring 480 ODI runs at an average of 80.

The opener scored 302 runs at an average of 75.5 at the Asia Cup, including an immaculate 27* as India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final.

Gill scored 178 runs in two innings against Australia as India prepared on home soil for the Cricket World Cup.

The right-handed batsman scored a century against Australia in the second of these ODIs, following a century against Bangladesh in September’s Asia Cup.

Gill also scored three half-centuries last month and was only dismissed for less than fifty on two occasions from eight innings in that time.

The 24-year-old has scored 1917 runs in 35 ODIs at an average of 66.1 and a strike rate of 102. He is currently ranked No.2 in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings.

Gill missed India’s first two Cricket World Cup matches due to illness, but he is crucial to the hosts’ prospects of winning the tournament for the first time since 2011.
