He also stated that he was hesitant to accept the captaincy before of the Asia Cup and that he intends to retire after the World Cup.

Shakib Al Hasan has announced his retirement plans, stating that the 2025 Champions Trophy may be his final international assignment. He stated that he intends to retire from T20Is after the 2024 T20 World Cup and that he may retire from Tests after the next ODI World Cup in India.

“The Champions Trophy for ODIs in 2025 and the T20 World Cup in 2024.” The tests could take place sooner. “Perhaps (after the World Cup),” Shakib speculated. “I will retire all at once, but I will withdraw from each format one at a time.” “I plan to retire after the 2025 Champions Trophy.”

“Given the current situation, I am only captain until the World Cup.” “Not another day,” Shakib said. “I resigned from the captaincy on September 17th.” I notified Papon bhai and sent an email to the CEO saying I did not want to be the captain. When I didn’t want to captain before of the Asia Cup, I had the same reasons. At this point in my career, I don’t believe my captaincy adds value. I just wanted to bowl my ten overs, do my best in fielding, then bat.

“The simplest thing for me to do would have been to decline the captaincy. When he offered me the position, I told him I couldn’t do it in this situation. I didn’t want to be under this kind of pressure at this age. I want to smile, have fun, and perform for Bangladesh.”

“[Papon] told about the situation to me. A captain must perform both on and off the field. When I found out that the BCB, coach, and team management were all in agreement about me, I accepted the captaincy.”

Shakib has only captained Bangladesh in the Asia Cup, where they defeated Afghanistan and India in five matches in his second term as full-time ODI captain. Bangladesh has arrived in India for World Cup warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and England, which will take place in Guwahati on September 29 and October 2, respectively. On October 7, they will play Afghanistan at Dharamsala in their first match of the competition.
